PowerSchool Implementation
Situated in the Mott Haven neighborhood of the Bronx, Haven Academy is part of New York City’s growing charter school movement. In a partnership with the New York Foundling, Haven Academy is the first charter in the nation to specifically address the needs of children in the child welfare system, including differentiated instruction, comprehensive child and family services, and conflict resolution.
One of Haven’s primary goals is to bring a data-driven model to their school to benchmark students and evaluate their teaching methodologies as the students move through the system. Beyond that, the staff needed a way to manage student data, including ethnicity, and family management. Floating Excel spreadsheets quickly became out of date or unwieldy and the school needed a better solution. All of Haven Academy’s vital student data, including grades, demographic information, and attendance is now stored in one place, easily managed and accessible.
With a small grant, Haven Academy decided to implement PowerSchool, the leading student information system (SIS). After comprehensive data collection and analysis, Something Digital managed all aspects of the PowerSchool implementation project—from early requirements gathering to end-of-year processing. All of Haven Academy’s vital student data, including grades, demographic information, and attendance is now stored in one place, easily managed and accessible.
After a successful rollout, Haven’s unique model made it a challenge to fit out-of-the-box functionality into a solution that met the school’s needs. As a follow-up engagement, SD is customizing PowerSchool to function optimally in their specialized environment, including a custom student dashboard.
