The world’s largest rapid transit system.

The New York City subway system is a modern marvel, connecting over eight million people and accommodating more than 5 million rides daily. Kawasaki Rail Car revolutionized the New York City subway car with the R160, providing commuters with a quieter, smoother ride.

    Outside the four walls.

For train operators and inspectors, the subway manual is indispensable. Scribbled notes, dog-eared pages, and missing covers are not uncommon. Kawasaki Rail Car enlisted Something Digital to build a mobile solution to convert the manuals to navigable electronic files accessed from handheld devices.

    Increasing operational efficiency.

SD created a searchable, electronic version of the rail car manual which included features like notes, favorites, scroll, hi-res images, and table of contents.

    Maximizing efficiency.

As Motorola partners and value-added resellers, we knew we could provide industry-leading hardware to the end user. We also knew that we could build a superior software solution that would not only help reduce costs, but would dramatically increase productivity as well. That meant that we needed a user-friendly handheld that was rugged enough to take abuse in the field.

    Enterprise mobility experts

SD configured and deployed the devices in a large-scale rollout initiative. This also included a comprehensive “train the trainer” program to select users complete with a how-to guide. New York City Transit can enjoy a tremendous overall cost savings from printing and increased efficiency.
